Welcome to the 4th World Congress of the International American Studies Association!
It is the first time ever that the IASA is holding its congress outside North America and Europe! Welcome to Asia! Please join us to celebrate its historical transcontinental move!
It is also worth notifying that 2009 is a very special year in China, which marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of U.S.-China diplomatic relations, and the 30th anniversary of the beginning of American Studies in China. Welcome to China! We look forward to your visit and your presence at the commemoration of Chinese as well as world history.
It is rather unfortunate that Prof. Emory Elliott, one of the founders of the IASA, recently passed away and is no longer able to join us to witness this historical moment. But his spirit will be with us when we continue his legacy of internationalizing American Studies and expand cross-region as well as cross-country cooperation.
We will do our best to make your participation in the 4th Congress smooth and fruitful.
