No. 6: Announcement by the Organizer of the IASA 4th Congress Regarding the A-H1N1 Flu

1. In China, only those showing symptoms of A-H1N1 flu will be "quarantined", as well as people with close contact with them. The patients and quarantinees are treated in a very humanely way. Thanks to the effective measures taken by the government, the A-H1N1 flu has only slightly affected China, despite its population density, with only a few hundred patients still receiving medical treatment or under medical observation while the rest have recovered.

2. At the airport, an automatic device can detect a passenger with a high temperature in a routine process (when passengers go through the customs). If a passenger is found with a high temperature, the passenger will have to receive further medical tests to determine the cause of high temperature. If diagnosed as an A-H1N1 virus carrier, the passenger will be quarantined and receive medical treatment accordingly. During the process, the passenger will be treated in a very humanely way. In actual practice, few passengers have been detected with a high temperature. Passengers showing no sign of the flu can move freely in China.

3. In June, when the H1N1 flu was at the height of its severity, the School of English and International Studies (SEIS), Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), hosted an international conference on cross-cultural communications at the FLTRP International Convention Center, with more than 200 participants from overseas. That conference was a great success, with no foreign attendee quarantined. Now, SEIS, BFSU is going to host the IASA 4th Congress at the same venue. We have good reason to believe that the conference will be a success.

4. We suggest that if, prior to your departure,
1) you are not in a good health condition, you take a second thought before you decide to travel here, for it may make you more vulnerable to the flu virus;
2) you catch a cold or have any flu symptoms, you cancel this trip because you will be quarantined in a hospital for a whole week in our local hospital;
3) you have some close contacts with someone infected by H1N1 virus, even if you do not show any symptoms, you cancel the trip because you might already get infected and it takes time to show any symptoms.

No. 5: Weather and Clothing

In response to some delegates' inquiry about weather and clothes choices in Beijing in September, the host has collected the following information for your reference.
1.       Weather features: In terms of weather, September is commonly regarded as the most comfortable month in Beijing. The average temperature (based on statistics of Beijing Meteorological Administration) is about 19oC. The day and night temperature difference is rather big in Beijing, varying from less than 10 oC at night to 25 oC at noon. It is generally dry and sunny with breeze. Extreme weather conditions are rare in September.
2.       Clothes recommended: T-shirt, shirt, thin jacket and thin woolen.
3.       Dressing tip: Taking into account the generally big day and night temperature difference in Beijing in September, we strongly recommend you, during the conference and your stay in Beijing, to check weather on a daily basis and dress accordingly.
4.       Other information: You may check weather at the front desk of the Convention Center every day.

No. 4: Program

The host has finished a draft of congress program (subject to modifications). You may refer to our webpages at Schedule (timetable with information of panels) and Schedule at a Glance (timetable). If you have any problem, please contact Prof. Li Qikeng as soon as possible before the congress program is finalized.

No. 3: Residence before September 17 and after September 20

The host has made accommodation arrangements for all delegates during the conference time (Sept. 17~20). However, some of our delegates wish to spend some time touring around Beijing outside our congress time and have asked about residence. The host has the following recommendations about residence in Beijing before September 17 and after September 20:

Firstly, since the conference venue is located in the suburb of Beijing, it will be very time-consuming for your to travel from the FLTRP International Convention Center to major tourist attractions in Beijing. So, you are recommended to make your own reservation at a hotel in downtown Beijing. This arrangement will save you a lot of time and energy. You may make your own choices of hotels or you may refer to our recommendations. Please click Hotels close to BFSU.doc to download.

Secondly, if you wish, you may choose to reside in the FLTRP International Convention Center outside the congress time. However, the preferential rates offered by the FLTRP International Convention Center (Please refer to Accommodation) only stand for the congress time (Sept. 17~20). If you wish to stay at the Convention Center, please contact Mr. Cui Ge at gecui87@gmail.com.

No.2: Major Changes in Venue, Accommodation and Transportation

Dear delegates to the 4th IASA World Congress,
Due to causes beyond our control, we will have to hold the IASA 4th World Congress in an international convention center instead of on BFSU campus.

The new conference venue, FLTRP International Convention Center (Please see at http://www.fltrpicc.com/ (in Chinese) or http://www.fltrpicc.com/english/index.html (in English)) is a 4-star level international conference and training complex.

Because of the change in Conference Venue, we have made new arrangements for Accommodation, Arriving at Beijing and Registration accordingly. Please see the respective webpage for details, paying special attention to highlighted parts.

We are sorry for this last-minute change and any inconveniences. Your understanding and cooperation are appreciated.

For new developments, please check our Notice Board webpage regularly.
